Colon cancer is the most common form of cancer both in Europe and North America and is a leading cause of mortality among all cancer related patients. It is believed that after long periods of daily consumption of meat, especially red meat, such as pork meat, beef meat or lamb meat, is associated a threefold increase risk of colon cancer and that is because red meat products contain no fiber, which are known to protect the colon from more than one disease.
The American Institute of Cancer Research promotes the regular physical activity as effective in reducing the risk of colon cancer, but also the risk of breast cancer and lung cancer. Thus, one study estimated that practicing moderate exercise throughout life can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 40 percent.

Regarding the actual diet for colon cancer prevention, doctors recommend a low fat, plant based food. Such a diet is considered a key component in the strategy to reduce colon cancer risk. Experts estimate that if we follow the recommendation to eat more fruits and vegetables or herbs, more meaning a minimum of five servings a day, we would decrease cancer incidence by 20 percent. Up to 50 percent of colon cancers could be prevented by adopting a diet low in fat and high in vegetables and so vitamins.
Recent studies, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, have also shown that a dose of 1,000 units of vitamin D3 can significantly reduce the risk of various cancers, among them ovarian, breast and colon cancer, with up to 50 percent. The study authors offer some clues on methods for improving the amount of vitamin D. Many people do not reach the required dose of vitamin D they should have in their body. A glass of milk contains only 100 units. Other foods such as orange juice, yoghurt and cheese, are beginning to be fortified, but you must make a considerable effort to reach 1,000 units of D vitamin per day. Sun exposure has its own limitations, and you should not stay at sun too much. It is recommended up to 15 minutes per daily of sun exposure on 40 percent of the body, besides the face, which should be protected by covering it away from the sun.

Diet for colon cancer prevention generally includes the need of vitamins, high rich fiber foods with the decrease of high fat aliments. Exercise is also important. A healthy and equilibrate diet with every day exercises in fresh air are the key for colon cancer prevention, and they are not used only in colon cancer disease, but also in other types of cancers, such as lung cancer, breast cancer or lymphatic cancer.
