Most diseases have different symptoms that can make someone understand that they are ill and so having medical checks and start the disease treatment. However, this is not the case for colon cancer, which is what we can call a hidden disease. So, in most cases there are no colon cancer signs that can alarm you.

This the worst factor in the last diagnosis of the disease and this is why many people that develop colon cancer discover it only in the final stages. So, colon cancer symptoms are not present in the earliest stages of the disease, but the usually occur when the cancer grows and start affecting other parts of the body and other organs, except the colon.

The first sign that can indicate colon cancer presence is a general weakness and decline of the health. Because when the colon has cancerous tumors, its function is slowed and affected, the whole body is going to feel it. In this phase colon cancer signs can include a change in the bowel habits, and if the cancer is formed, patients usually experience for a long period of time diarrhea or constipation, but also the alternation between those two symptoms. Anyway, no one finds one of this signs very alarming.

When someone has diarrhea or constipation, he usually associates them with digestive problems and with something they ate and that made them sick. This way they usually do no take medical checks in this phase.


Another sign is the bloody stools, usually associated with pain. Blood should be alarming, but when this sign appears, because of the pain people in the first phase associate it with hemorrhoids. Anyway, this symptom does not occur until the cancer is formed and it starts growing, so it can be felt from stage two. General abdominal discomfort such as frequent gas pains, bloating, fullness or cramps can also be felt by a person that has developed colon cancer.

In general, weakness and discomfort will be felt, but constant tiredness and a lose of weight can also be symptoms of colon cancer, because when the cancer affects the colon and they why the organ functions, the whole body is going to feel it, as said. If colon cancer evolves and reaches stage four before it is diagnosed, other symptoms may occur depending on the location of the metastatic tumor.

Vomiting and fatigue are the most common ones. Lack of appetite, trouble breathing and a constant need to sleep, will also be experienced by colon cancer advanced stages patients. Anyway, if you just feel sick and you thing that something is wrong, no matter which symptom you feel have a medical check, because even if it is nothing wrong, you will at least know where you are staying.
