Colon cancer is a disease that starts in the colon. The cancer is caused by the abnormal divide of normal cells. When this happens, cancerous tumors are formed. Anything can determine normal cells divide in an abnormal way, even factors that you do not give much consideration, such as pollution, stress or diet. There are some risk factors that can contribute to cancer development and in colon cancer case the most affected individuals are the ones that have over 50 years old and have a colon cancer case in their families.

When colon cancer grows in the individual’s body, it creates metastases to other organs, such as the lungs or liver. Colon cancer metastasized to liver is the most common form of colon cancer metastases. Now instead of one tumor in the colon, the individual has developed secondary tumors in the liver. This is the last stage of the disease, also called colon cancer stage four or Duke’s D colon cancer, the phase in which when the cancer is diagnosed it already has spread to other parts of the body, and so to the liver. This happens mostly because the cancer in not discovered in one of the earliest stages, when it is easy to treat because the tumors can be removed easily through surgery when they are located in an exact position.

When colon cancer spreads, it has to be first located, and than treatment has to regard both primary and secondary tumors. If the colon cancer metastasized to liver is diagnosed a surgical intervention in some cases can be performed on the liver. However, this depends on many factors and the patient general health situation is just one of them. Anyway, in the majority of cases, chemotherapy is the solution applied. With the use of the chemo drugs, colon cancer can be defeated, but you have to know that this does not happen without any efforts. Chemotherapy can have many side effects so you will experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, a general lack of appetite and sometimes hair loss. In many cases the side effects of chemo can be stooped through the use of other medicines.

Being diagnosed with colon cancer metastasized to liver is not easy at all. Even if the survival rates for this phase are at about 20 to 30 percent, many people still die because of it. However, not all hope should be lost. The mental effects that this diagnose can have on a person are huge and uncontrolled. But you should know also that when you keep you toughs positive, you can help your treatment work better and this can be made by just believing that you will get cured of colon cancer that has created liver metastases.
