When you think about cancer you probably think about one of the worst diseases. And you are probably right. Cancers are diseases that are very hard to treat because there are not medicines, drugs or medical interventions that can actually cure it.

When you have flu, your doctor prescribes you some drugs and in maximum seven days, you are cured. However, this is not the case for colon cancer. This is why it is very important to prevent this disease. And when cancer is developed it is also very important to detect it right after it was formed, because than you have the highest chances to actually cure it.

So, the next question you may ask is how can colon cancer be detected early. Well, there are two ways to accomplish this fact. The first one is to know all the risk factors and if you are under the influence of one or more, to have medical checks every year and if your doctor recommends you, screening tests. The other way to detect colon cancer as early as possible is to be very careful at colon cancer symptoms. Anyway, the worst thing about colon cancer early diagnosis is that in most cases, there are no symptoms that can alarm you. And when symptoms do occur, the cancer has already evolved.

Colon cancer symptoms include chances in the bowel habits, accompanied with pain. Diarrhea, constipation, excessive gas and abdominal pain can also be felt by colon cancer patients. These symptoms can be felt different by different individuals.

They can be found all in a patient or just one or two of them. When the tumors evolve, they are going to affect the colon’s good function and their purpose is to pass through the colon wall and affect the blood system or the lymphatic system, through which it can spread and affect other organs. These way metastases are created. Tiredness, weakness, nausea or vomiting can also be symptoms and colon cancer spreads in a continuous way.

Other symptoms that are felt by a colon cancer patient will be in this phase influenced by the exact location of the created metastases. When the lungs are the ones where cancerous tumors are formed, you will experience cough and trouble breathing and depending on the number of the tumors and their dimensions, you can also eliminate blood while you are coughing.

However, this part of colon cancer is a very advanced one, and it is recommended to detect the cancer earlier, before it reaches such an evolution. So, in both cases, screening tests are very important for the colon cancer diagnosis. Though a screening test, a doctor can see inside the individual’s colon and check for any abnormal growth that might have been formed.
